Why do people from Africa have black skin?

by JuanChristophe
Question by LNYBk: Why do people from Africa have black skin?
You would think that in a hotter place, people would have evolved to have lighter skin because black holds more heat. Also, people have lighter skin in the dessert regions but that maybe be because they stayed inside more? At the same time, you would think that in colder places, skin would be black like a polar bears.
